What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the application of audiovisual technology such as photo-imaging, digital recording, video and the world-wide-web to provide medical consultation to patients.
Why does River Clinic provide telemedicine?
Many people would like to become patients of the River Clinic but are unable to travel to our clinic due to distance, lack of a method of transportation, unusual work hours or are physically immobilized due to illness or injury. Some have small children or elderly person to look after, and leaving the house is just not an option. For most of our telemedicine patients, it is just a matter of convenience to have medical service provided to them in the comfort of their home without the hassle of travelling.
What kind of consultation can be provided using telemedicine?
We provide herbal medicine consultations.
How will a telemedicine consultation be conducted?
Using live on-line video, our therapists interact with patients in real time. Like our regular appointments, your initial consultation will be 60 minutes in length. Follow up consultation are 20 minutes. Our herbalists will be able to collect your medical information, make a detailed diagnosis and design a customized herbal medicine prescription just like a regular office visit.
How will I receive my herbal medication?
Depending on your medical situation and where you live, we will either send you the herbs from our own herbal dispensary or arrange to have your herbal medication sent to you from a reputable herbal pharmacy close to your location.
If you’re expected to refill your herbal medication, we will inform the pharmacy on the correct number of permitted refills. You can either pick up your medication or have it sent to you in a timely manner, which ever is easiest for you.
What equipment do I need for a telemedicine consultation?
You will need:
- Computer with inter-net connection
- Skype software: Skype is a free application that allows users to make free voice and video calls over the inter-net. To download Skype click here.
How do I set up a telemedicine consultation?
Call the clinic (905-513-6888) to make an appointment with our receptionist. Be sure to mention that you would like to book a telemedicine consultation and which therapist you would like to see.
You will also need to download the following three documents.
1. Informed Consent Form
2. Intake Form
3. Medical Information Policy
All you have to do is fill out these forms and either fax them back to us (please call to get our fax number) or scan it with your scanner and send it to us by e-mail. Our staff will contact you to obtain your credit card information to process the consultation fee and to provide further instructions.
